The aristocratic enthusiasm for hunting among the Baroque nobility, conceived with Spanish pomp and ceremonial solemnity, required top artists as well. This situation led to attention being drawn to painters like Philipp Ferdinand (1664–1750), Karl Wilhelm (1668–1754) and Johann Georg  (1672–1737), members of the extensive (originally Scottish) Hamilton family of artists. Their services were used by members of the high secular and ecclesiastical aristocracy, circulating mainly in Vienna. Besides the imperial family they were in particular the Liechtensteins, Schwarzenbergs, Serenyis, Althans and perhaps also the Auersperg, Salm and Ctibor families. The book includes an introductory explanation and a selection of oil paintings by Hamilton brothers, preserved in the collections of Czech and Moravian castles administered by the National Heritage Institute. The main hunters with their guests and entourage, but also the leading huntsmen, piquers, falconers, grooms and dog handlers were very accurately portrayed according to cherished principles and rules. Equal care was devoted to noble animals, especially horses and dogs.

Vedle císařské rodiny to byli zejména Liechtensteinové, Schwarzenbergové, Serényiové, Althanové, snad i Auerspergové, Salmové a Ctiborové.
